Artist’s Statement
Painting is my first love. Strong color is very prominent in my work and very important to me in expressing that outdoors feeling. I came to printing later after taking work shops and classes here in the north west and I really relate to it, the process, the multiples, the problem solving make it something I really love.
My two dimensional works usually involve a western theme in someway or another, like a western landscape or possibly a figurative piece with a cowboy or at least a western hat thrown in somewhere.
I think this fascination with things western comes from several sources, my childhood; watching Westerns movies and Westerns on TV, and my young adulthood, when I lived in Verlarde, New Mexico for a couple of years. This is where I really fell in love with the wide-open spaces of what we think of as western landscapes. And then, there are my extensive travels in the western United States, where I have studied the hills and the roads and the people.
