Gail Weir
Artist’s Statement
Once I started on the path of becoming a painter so much in my life finally made sense; the way I had always looked at the world—at faces, light, shadow, shapes, color. The tactile experience of a brush, a painting knife or fingers in contact with paint—it makes me feel alive and in touch with my humanity.
I aspire for my work to be increasingly about both imagery and the materiality of paint itself. I enjoy working directly from life as well as drawing upon my memory and imagination while painting.
Biography
Gail Weir was born in California and moved to Washington state as a child. She started drawing at an early age and began doing freelance illustration as a teenager. After discovering that working as a commercial artist made her feel like a round peg fitting into a square hole, Gail began studying to become a painter. Gail has exhibited her paintings in galleries throughout the Northwest since 2001. She lives with her painter husband, Joseph Lesser, and their four cats on the Kitsap Peninsula.
