Artist’s Statement
I have always had an interest in making things and was fortunate to be exposed to art and fine craft from an early age. With a long background in metal work and two extraordinary mentors it was natural to begin to experiment with the sculptural possibilities of metal. I have been crafting functional art in aluminum and bronze for a number of years; the work has been included in several juried art exhibitions, and is currently represented at two galleries.
I create usable and functional art from bronze and aluminum. I fabricate sculptural pieces with a variety of colored patinas in various sizes and shapes. I primarily design finely crafted vases and lamps. My wife, Cindy, makes the graceful shades for the lamps.
Sculptural possibilities fascinate me and I enjoy working with a variety of metals and playing with different shapes. From cylinders that are torked into different shapes to flat scoopy low vessels my pieces are carefully crafted with interesting patinas. I often adds “frogs” to the inside base of vases to allow for spartan flower arrangements or ikebana options.
