ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The Dog House is a photomosaic collage composed of 217 separate photographs to convey the feeling of the legendary Doghouse Tavern. Over a period of 18 months I created 1536 images of “The Dog” from a variety of perspectives. I began tentatively assembling the photomosaic elements while still in the “acquisition” phase of the project, observing what new aspects I needed to highlight. I continued to shoot until the rough layout was nearly complete in mid-October 2009. Final assembly of the components took another 2 weeks.

The central theme of my recent monumental imagery is space. In these large collages, I also investigate the temporal dimensions of my subject. For example, the passage of time is delineated by the changing foliage and variety of apparel and activities. While taking a deconstructivist approach to the scene, I also utilize aspects of analytical cubism to explore perspective.

Brackenwood Gallery is located in Langley Washington and features a variety of painters, sculptors, graphic artists, glass workers and other local artisans.
