Artist’s Statement
I have always appreciated the functional aspect of a handmade book. I like to see them used. The privacy of a handmade journal allows one to express heartfelt secrets or jot down a grocery list, to sketch deep inner meanings or keep track of gas mileage. It doesn’t matter.
The books created for “Bells, Books and Candlesticks” present a more complex challenge for the user.
A book opens from both sides allowing the opportunity to tell two stories at once.
A book covered with World War II memories should not be taken lightly.
An Edible book requires discriminating taste and a dash of tamari.
A Wasp’s Tale is a story already told, but perhaps there is more to say…
It is my hope that the books will be used and enjoyed.
