Brackenwood Gallery proudly presents the photography of Skip Smith with a selection of oil paintings by Kent Lovelace. Skip is inordinately fond of trees and recently became inspired to participate in a show that highlighted the beauty and artistic qualities of trees. Smith asked Kent Lovelace, known for his radiant treed landscapes, to contribute to this show and he graciously accepted. The work of these two artists reveals the dignity and unique character of each tree they depict.

Skip Smith’s photographs have a somewhat antique and painterly quality created by using a Lith photographic print technique. Smith’s work is a celebration of the splendor of trees: tall lanky forest trees, wind worn craggy trees, senescent trees with unparalleled dignity and character. Skip’s photographs remind the viewer of the varied environs where trees thrive and survive.  “Artistically I am drawn to their symmetry, or more importantly, to the lack thereof; their majesty and tenacity are appealing.” Skip Smith

We are thrilled to have Kent Lovelace join us for this show. Kent Lovelace is a master lithographer whose journey into painting incorporated the copper surface from the printmaking world as his canvas. This technique imbues the oil painting with a subtle luminous quality. Kent’s landscapes explore the elegant forms of trees and integrate the rich and vibrant element of color.
